Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Monday reviewed the ongoing efforts to develop the technical aspect and artificial intelligence at courts as part of steps aimed at promoting the use of the latest technological means in the courts’ work system to achieve speedy performance during the consideration of cases.

The President’s remarks came during his meeting on Monday with Minister of Justice Omar Marawan, Presidency Spokesman Ahmed Fahmi said.

During the meeting, the President followed up on the intensive efforts to speed up the completion of citizens’ cases as part of the comprehensive development of the country’s litigation system.

In directives he gave in light of that review, President Sisi called for keeping up the intensive effort to accelerate the litigation process in a manner that provides for completing lawsuits in the same year of filing, spokesman Fahmy said.

President Sisi noted in this context that the aspired development would realise speedy justice and fix the legal positions of citizens, in addition to protecting the rights of citizens and their interests, spokesman Fahmy said.

The President expressed appreciation of the judges of the courts of first instance, appeal and cassation, for their distinguished performance and valued effort, which contributed to achieving a quantum leap in the speed of completing the examination of cases and overcoming the great challenges that had prevailed in this regard, thereby forming a new image and a sound impression of the justice system in Egypt.

In the presentation he made during the meeting, Minister Marawan outlined the position of completing the examination of cases before the courts of first instance and the courts of appeal, noting that with regard to civil law suits registered until 2019, only 837 cases remain at courts out of about 410,000 cases.

As for civil law suits registered in the years 2020, 2021 and 2022, 88% of the total of about 1.5 million cases have been completed, the Justice Minister said.

Regarding family affair law suits, only 4 cases remain with the courts out of about 170,000 registered cases until 2020, while 98.4% of the cases registered in 2021 and 2022, which amounted to about 1,400,000, were completed.

As for misdemeanor cases, the number of registered cases in 2020, 2021 and 2022 amounted to about 26 million cases, 95% of which were completed.

The minister added that with regard to the Courts of Appeal, there are 2,941 remaining registered appeals until 2019 while about 90% of the 460,000 civil appeals registered in the years 2020, 2021 and 2022 have been completed.

With regard to family appeals, 94% of the more than 400,000 appeals registered in 2021 and 2022 have been completed, the Justice Minister added.
