The head of the National Council for Women (NCW), Maya Morsi, met on Sunday David McAllister, Chair of European Parliament’s (EU) Foreign Affairs Committee, who is currently visiting Egypt.

During the meeting, Morsi reviewed Egypt’s efforts to empower women socially and economically.

EU Ambassador to Egypt Christian Berger and Egyptian Ambassador to Brussels Badr Abdel-Aty attended the meeting.

Morsi confirmed that the council has attached great importance since its establishment to women’s economic empowerment.

She said that the NCW has launched the National Strategy for the Empowerment of Egyptian Women 2030 to accelerate the pace of women’s empowerment, preserve their rights, and place them in a decent position that is worthy of their values, capabilities and sacrifices through out history.

Morsi reviewed the Council’s programmes concerned with developing women’s skills and capacities as a first step to ensure women’s access into the labour market.

The council, she said, also seeks to improve women’s capabilities in all fields, in a bid to develop their entrepreneurial skills, and help them overcome obstacles facing their ventures.

She also spoke about the council’s efforts within the national project for the development of the Egyptian family.

For his part, David McAllister stressed the importance of developing women’s potentials and qualifying them to assume decision-making positions.

He underscored that the file of women empowerment comes at top priorities of the European Union Parliament.
