CAIRO – Ambassador Khaled El-Bakly, the Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights and International Social and Humanitarian Issues, headed Egypt’s delegation to the first round of consultations between Egypt and China on human rights issues, held in Cairo.
The Chinese delegation was headed by Yang Xiakon, the Special Representative for Human Rights of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The two sides stressed that Egyptian-Chinese strategic relations and cooperation are profound at the bilateral and multilateral levels frameworks in light of the growing international interest in human rights issues, the Foreign Ministry said.
They agreed, in this context, on the need to draft balanced visions that reflect the aspirations of the developing countries for enhancing multilateral international action and reaching targets for which the Human Rights Council was established. This requires building potentials, exchanging expertise and unifying efforts to confront international challenges in areas of common concern.
They also agreed on the importance of holding such dialogues periodically, whether at the level of officials or permanent missions to the United Nations in Geneva and New York, with the aim of reaching joint initiatives that are approved by the UN member states.
