Egypt’s Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources, Hani Sweilem, announced on Tuesday the start of a five-week training course at the Pan African Centre for Water and Climate Change Adaptation (PACWA).

The course, the minister said, is held under the theme ‘Water management for non-agricultural purposes in urban areas’.

“Twenty-four African trainees are participating in the course,” the minister said.

The minister made these remarks after receiving a report from Tareq el-Sayyed, the head of the Regional Training Centre for Water Resources and Irrigation (RCTWS), about the work of the RCTWS and the PACWA.

The report also covers the progress made so far in the implementation of the Italian-Egyptian Water Training Programme – Water Knowledge project.

Minister Sweilemnoted that a training course was held under the title ‘Management of irrigation systems and adaptation to water scarcity in African agriculture’,between June 11 andJune 21, with participation from 15 African trainees.

The minister revealed that a training course would alsobe held at the end of August under the theme ‘Shared water resources management and water diplomacy’.

Twenty African trainees, the minister said, would participate in that course.

MinisterSweilem also assessed progress made in the implementation of the Italian-Egyptian Water Training Programme – Water Knowledge project.

The project, he said, aspires to developthe technical and administrative capabilities of people working in the water sector in Egypt and African countries and upgrade the training infrastructure as per advanced technological techniques.
