Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry asserted Egypt’s keenness on upgrading and deepening strategic ties with Greece in light of the current regional and international challenges.

Shoukry’s remarks were made during a phone conversation with Greece’s new Foreign Minister Vassilis Kaskeralis. They exchanged views on means of pushing forward bilateral ties in the political, economic and trade and energy domains with the aim of achieving the two countries’ common interests.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said the call comes as part of regular consultations and coordination between the two sides on a set of bilateral issues as well as regional problems in light of the distinguished relations binding the two countries.

Shoukry also extended greetings to his Greek counterpart on assuming his new post, wishing him the best of luck.

Abu Zeid also said that the two ministers probed the latest developments on the regional and international fronts and agreed on intensifying co-operation in countering the common challenges in a way that serves the interests of the two countries and achieves stability in this important region.

The Greek minister, for his part, voiced his country’s appreciation for Egypt’s stances and its efforts to maintain the region’s security and stability.
