Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat, Minister of Education and Technical Education Reda Hegazi, and New Valley Governorate Mohamed el-Zamalout on Monday opened the ‘We School for Applied Technology’, at the regional capital el-Kharga.
The newly opened school is affiliated to Telecom Egypt, the country’s primary telephone company.
Telecom Egypt’s CEO Mohamed Nasr and a host of the company’s senior officials attended the opening ceremony.
The opening of the new facility comes under a cooperation protocol signed between the Ministry of Education and Technical Education, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the New Valley Governorate, and Telecom Egypt to develop part of the el-Kharga Technical School for Girls, converting it into the ‘We School for Applied Technology’.
This the seventh school of its type across the nation, with a total number of 2,104 students and 165 teachers.
More than 650 male and female students from all over the New Valley have applied to enroll in the school for the academic year 2022-2023, and 50 of them were accepted (36 girls and 14 boys), which is the targeted capacity for the first academic year.
Minister Talaat said that the new school embodies the ministry’s approach to build digital capabilities, which is one of the pillars for achieving technological inclusion through providing distinguished opportunities for learning and technical training all over the country.
Talaat noted that they aim to establish such a ‘We’ school in each governorate, in light of the fruitful co-operation with the Ministry of Education. The goal is to bridge the gap between theoretical educational and the actual needs of the labour market.
For his part, Minister of Education and Technical Education Reda Hegazy said that the launch of the first applied technology school in the New Valley is part of the extensive partnership with Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
He added that the MCIT has been playing an effective and pioneering role contributing to the development of the technical education system in Egypt.
