A cultural salon entitled “Tea for Harmony” was held in Cairo. The event, which marks International Tea Day, allowed hundreds of visitors to enjoy the tea arts involving the ceremonial preparation and presentation of tea and taste various kinds of Chinese tea.
Held under the theme of “Tea: A Gift from China for the World,” the gathering was attended by Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang, former Egyptian Prime Minister Essam Sharaf, and Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League Khalil Ebrahim Mohammed Saleh Althawadi, as well as government officials, media representatives, and tea lovers from both China and Egypt.
In his speech at the beginning of the event, the Chinese ambassador expressed his hopes that tea would contribute to strengthening the ties between China and Egypt, indicating that “Tea is not only the spiritual symbol of the Chinese nation but also the link and bridge between China and the rest of the world.”
In addition to various tea-themed activities, the attendees of the event also had the chance to enjoy performances of Chinese folk dances and Shaolin Kungfu.
The event is part of a global tour called “Tea for Harmony Yaji Cultural Salon” to promote the tradition of tea-making and its rich culture in China.
China’s traditional tea-making is part of the intangible cultural heritage list of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
China now has 43 items on the intangible cultural heritage list, continuing to be the most enlisted country in the world.
