Egypt’s Ambassador to Italy Bassam Radi on Sunday met with Minister of Supply and Home Trade Ali el-Moselhi.
Moselhi was in the Italian capital for the 1st general assembly of the World Farmers Markets Coalition (WorldFMC) in Rome.
The ambassador said that Moselhi’s presence at the event came in line with Egypt’s interest in food security especially in view of current economic conditions.
The government is ready to co-operate and partner with the Italian side in this regard, he added.
The minister and the envoy toured the agricultural products exhibition on the sidelines of WorldFMC event, which ends today.
For the first time, more than 100 agricultural and community development leaders from around the world gathered in Rome to introduce a farmers’ market community of practice to the world.
The event was an opportunity to contribute to the development of a sustainable local food system model focusing on rebuilding the link between rural and urban areas and strengthening local economies, public health and biodiversity.
Launched in July 2021 and officially recognised as an international association in June 2022, WorldFMC is a new Rome-based non-profit organisation representing 60 associations present in 50 countries, 20,000 markets, 200,000 farming families and 300 million consumers.
