CAIRO – The 32nd session of the Arab League Council at the summit level, to be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is organized amid pressuring regional and international challenges, said former assistant foreign minister, Mohamed Hegazy.
He told MENA on Thursday that the summit coincides with serious developments, including security, economic, emigration and food crises due to Russia-Ukraine conflict, US-China tension, Saudi Arabia-Iranian ties, Turkish presidential election and dangers of terrorism and human trafficking, among others.
He added that the summit aims to create brighter and more stable future for Arab countries, unite Arab ranks and support joint action.
He considered Syria’s return to the AL after 12 year absence as a promising indicator.
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi arrived in Jeddah on Thursday to participate in the summit.
Sisi’s participation in the summit reflects Egypt’s keenness to foster ties with Arab countries and support efforts to propel joint action mechanisms and unite ranks to serve the interests of all Arab countries, Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said.
The Jeddah summit aims to strengthen consultation and coordination among Arab countries to maintain security and stability of the region in light of ongoing developments and crises at regional and international levels, Fahmy added.
