JEDDAH/CAIRO – Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry participated in the first meeting of the Arab ministerial liaison group – which was formed under a decision by the Arab League Council – to follow up the developments in Sudan, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said.
The meeting is held on the fringe of the Arab foreign ministers’ meeting in Jeddah.
The group is holding contacts with the Sudanese and international parties to address the reasons of the Sudanese crisis in order to achieve durable ceasefire.
The meeting was attended by the Egyptian and Saudi foreign ministers and the Arab League secretary general, the spokesman said.
Abu Zeid underlined the importance of proceeding with the ongoing efforts to immediately cease fire and protect Sudan’s national institutions and the Sudanese people.
He warned the group of interfering in the Sudanese affairs, stressing support for the humanitarian Jeddah declaration for protecting civilians and meeting the urgent humanitarian needs.
The group’s members lauded the efforts exerted by a number of Arab countries, including Egypt, to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people.
The group members stressed that they will proceed with efforts with all Sudanese parties and coordinate with regional and international partners to reach a solution to the crisis.
The group members also called on the international community to provide urgent humanitarian and medical support for the Sudanese people.
The group issued a statement at the end of the meeting to stress solidarity with the Sudanese people.
