CAIRO- Deputy Executive Director of UN Women Anita Bhatia said on Tuesday that the representation of women in the Egyptian cabinet, estimated at 27 percent, exceeds the global rate, which stands at 25 percent.
Addressing the 8th meeting of the OIC Ministerial Conference on Women hosted by Egypt under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Bhatia lauded the great efforts made by Egypt in the fields of gender equality, women’s economic empowerment, and elimination of violence against women.
Egypt was one of the first countries to make clear commitments at the level of national and global policies to mitigate the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on women, she said, citing Egypt’s commitment to establishing the OIC Woman Development Organization, which plays an active role in the fields of women’s economic empowerment, elimination of violence against women and combating terrorism and extremism
