Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri reiterated Egypt’s firm and declared position since the first day of the Sudanese crisis, calling for an immediate ceasefire in order to preserve the blood of the Sudanese people.
The foreign minister’s remarks came during his meeting on Tuesday with the envoy of the Chairman of the Sudan Sovereignty Council General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, Ambassador Dafallah Haj Ali, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said.
During the meeting, the foreign minister stressed the importance of all parties’ commitment to maintaining the armistice and not violating it, to allow an opportunity for humanitarian relief operations, wound healing, and the start of a serious dialogue aimed at resolving the existing differences.
Meanwhile, the Sudanese envoy conveyed to the Egyptian foreign minister a verbal message from General al-Burhan to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi about the developments in the situation in Sudan in light of the military operations that have been taking place for more than two weeks.
He extended his thanks to the government and people of Egypt for cordially welcoming Sudanese citizens fleeing from war and for their generous hospitality.
Foreign Minister Shoukri also stressed that Egypt is keen to deal with the current crisis in Sudan as a domestic affair, hence it has announced its firm position during the meetings that dealt with the situation in Sudan in the Arab League, the African Union and the Security Council, on the need for all international and regional parties to respect Sudan’s sovereignty and refrain from interfering in the crisis in a way that leads to fueling the conflict and shedding more blood.
Shoukri also reviewed all the contacts he made with his counterparts with a number of active and influential countries internationally and regionally, stressing the unity of the international community’s message calling for the need to stop the ongoing fighting in order to protect the Sudanese people and to preserve the safety, unity and national institutions of Sudan.
The foreign minister conveyed to the Sudanese envoy Egypt’s deep concern over the continuation of the current situation in Sudan, and that it will spare no effort to help the brothers in Sudan overcome this ordeal based on its firm belief in the unity of destiny and the common history between the peoples of the Nile Valley.
