CAIRO- A 5.3 magnitude earthquake struck 551 kilometers north of Marsa Matrouh governorate at 10 pm Cairo local time on Wednesday, Head of the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG) Gad el Qady announced.
The quake hit at a depth of 108.6 kilometers, Qady said in a statement.
Some people in Egypt felt the quake, the statement said, adding that no human casualties or facility damage were reported.
