TOKYO – Prime Minister Kishida Fumio says he will present an action plan this month to attract more investments and talent from other countries in a bid to promote Japan’s economic growth, NHK reported.
The Japanese prime minister was speaking on Thursday at the “B7 Tokyo Summit,” a meeting of business leaders from the Group of Seven countries.
Kishida said he wants to actively invite human resources and funds from overseas to boost overall investment in Japan and expand new business opportunities from abroad.
He said the action plan will have numerical targets and will feature measures to promote investment for building resilient supply chains for semiconductor chips and other products.
The prime minister said the plan would also include a strategy to turn Japan into Asia’s largest startup hub and a new residency program to make it easier for talented people to work in Japan.
Kishida said he wants to have frank discussions about strengthening supply chains and core infrastructure with the other G7 leaders at next month’s Hiroshima summit.
The two-day B7 Tokyo summit began on Wednesday and is being organized by the Japan Business Federation, or Keidanren.
