Head of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service (GIS) Abbas Kamel and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty on Saturday visited Eritrea’s capital Asmara where they met Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki.
Kamel and Abdelatty conveyed a message from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to his Eritrean counterpart on ways of promoting and strengthening bilateral relations in various domains along with following up on regional political and security developments.
Afwerki expounded to the Egyptian head of the intelligence service and foreign minister his vision regarding the developments in the Red Sea, in light of the necessity of ensuring favorable conditions for restoring the navigation movement and global trade through Bab al Mandab Strait.
Also, the Eritrean president briefed them on his views regarding developments in the Horn of Africa and challenges faced by the region as well as ways of boosting regional security and stability.
The two sides agreed on intensifying efforts and maintaining consultation towards achieving stability in Sudan and supporting its national establishments along with preserving Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity.
